Master Gilkey was born and raised in Oklahoma. 
He received his BA in Management Information
Systems from the University of Oklahoma. He is currently the manager for an IT organization at Verizon. Master Gilkey has three children, Sterling, Chandler and Alyssa.Gilkey currently resides in McKinney, Texas.
Gilkey began studying Karate in 1975 at the age of 4 and currently holds the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt. He came to dominate the point-tournament circuit, and was appropriately nicknamed “Hot Foot” for the exceptional speed and power of his kicks. Gilkey has won the U. S. National Championships (7 times), the USKA Nationals (2 times), the Top Ten Nationals (1 time), and numerous state titles.
Master Gilkey was recently inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame, as well as chosen for the "Who’s Who in Karate" and a member of the National College of Martial Arts.
Gilkey is also a certified personal trainer with The National Federation of Professional Trainers and a former member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness. Master Gilkey furthers his achievements by promoting 6 Black Belts and teaching students the dedication and personal excellence that has enabled Gilkey's students to capture literally hundreds of tournament titles.
Throughout his many years of competition and coaching, Master Gilkey has traveled the country fighting against hundreds of different martial arts styles and techniques. His knowledge of Martial Arts techniques and teaching skills are well respected within the Martial Arts community. Master Gilkey has recently received his certification as a KidSafe agent, which is a division of the National Security Alliance. Gilkey is currently the only KidSafe Agent in the Dallas metroplex. Gilkey conducts Kid Safety Awareness seminars in an effort to create more awareness and provide for a safer environment for our kids.
